Somerset Money Matters
This project was born out of The Somerset Financial Inclusion Strategy which was commissioned in 2014 by the Somerset Strategic Housing Officers Group. It identified that whilst many of the issues faced by financially excluded Somerset residents mirrored the national picture, they were exacerbated by the rural nature of the county. In particular access to the internet is unreliable, the cost of housing is high and numeracy and literacy skills cause significant issues. It set out a goal, six priorities and 24 recommendations in order to address financial exclusion throughout the county.
Somerset County Council Public Health has now provided funding to the five Advice Bureau in Somerset for the delivery of the Financial Inclusion Strategy during 2015-2016. This plan is Stage 1 in the delivery, auditing the current financial inclusion work that is being carried out in Somerset and then making a proposal for future activities.
